– The threats are also seismic to the Multistakeholder model ICANN has been championing all over the world since the conclusion of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) in 2005.

– The warning was delivered on March 7th by MLi Group chairman, Survivability News publisher, and Three-Times International Best-Selling Author Khaled Fattal during the ICANN 79 Puerto Rico meeting.

– The Multistakeholder model has been the gospel / DeFacto format followed by the United Nation Internet Governance Forum, also known as “IGF” or “UN IGF“.

– Fattal alluded to a multitude of critical threats ICANN is facing, many of which are not obvious to those who are not seasoned experts in geopolitics. However, Fattal did name one of these threats as an example.

– Fattal raised similar concerns back in 2019 with little or to no avail, which strongly validates the seriousness of his concerns in ICANN ability to effectively address these threats today and moving forward.

Survivability News Exclusive.

The ICANN Board was given a stark reality check warning about serious challenges and escalating threats to its relevance, role, authority in the emerging New World Order, and its political and geopolitical ramifications.

The threats are also seismic to the Multistakeholder model ICANN has been championing all over the world since the conclusion of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) in 2005.

The warning was delivered on March 7th by MLi Group chairman, Survivability News publisher, and Three-Times International Best-Selling Author Khaled Fattal during the ICANN 79 Puerto Rico meeting.

The Multistakeholder model has been the gospel / DeFacto format followed by the United Nation Internet Governance Forum, also known as “IGF” or “UN IGF“.

The UN IGF is in its 19th year. The 2023 UN IGF was hosted by Japan last October. The 2024 IGF will be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its capital Riyadh.

Fattal alluded to a multitude of critical threats ICANN is facing, many of which are not obvious to those who are not seasoned experts in geopolitics. However, Fattal did name one of these threats as an example.

He also raised other serious concerns about missing critical mindset and expertise at ICANN to successfully mitigate these perilous and escalating challenges and threats.

Fattal raised similar concerns back in 2019 with little or to no avail, which further validates his serious concerns today about ICANN’s ability to mitigate the threat and remain relevant in the emerging new world order.

ICANN’s ability to effectively navigate through the minefields its relevance, role, authority and its Multistakeholder model are already facing today, and which will most certainly escalate moving forward, were also points of concern by Fattal.

Transcript Excerpts of Fattal’s challenge & ICANN Board Chairman Tripti Sinha’s replies.

In his challenge, MLi Group chairman Khaled Fattal said to the ICANN Board at the Public Forum, “this meeting is probably my 72nd or 73rd ICANN meeting, and I am now speaking as an authority on the element of geopolitics and cyber and the risks, and many of you may already know about my international best-seller on this subject.”

Fattal continued, “The world is on the cusp of a seismic change in the way global politics and geopolitics is embarking, and there is a serious need for a mindset change within ICANN and its expertise within ICANN Board to figure out how to navigate this space. The world is no longer run by a single superpower. There are now emerging superpowers, and they all have stakes in this this, and guess what, for ICANN to remain relevant in this space it has to reinvent itself and be relevant in the new world order. ICANN is my family, and I want it to succeed. This is a challenge I’m putting it to you.”

Tripti Sinha, ICANN Board Chairman replied, “Khaled, very nice to meet you, I don’t think you and I have ever met before. Yes, by the way. you’ve hit the nail on the head, and the board is painfully aware of the changing order.”

Sinha then added, “this point in time is very very serious, I’ve called it an inflection point for exactly the reasons you stated. So yes, we are aware of that, and we are taking this very seriously”.

Fattal then replied, “I welcome your response, but I think moving forward ICANN needs to acquire the necessary expertise moving forward to know how to navigate what I call walking through this minefield. Because any minute, US sanctions could hit ICANN while it is addressing topics that are on the subject of countries who are under US sanctions.”

Sinha then replied, “I couldn’t agree more.”

 ICANN History (Simplified).

Since its creation in 1998 as a California non-profit corporation, ICANN has been the sole authority of the names and numbers of the global internet. It was given this role by the US government the creator of the internet project which was originally a military defense project with a handful of US universities.

The US Government’s Department of Commerce was the controller and overseer of ICANN and the IANA functions.

Names refer to Domain Names, and Number refer are the IP addresses. Both are critical resources for anything to exist and operate on the global internet today. Key to all this is the IANA function. For decades, ICANN’s slogan has been “One World, One Internet”.

What Are
Geo-Poli-
Cyber™ Risks?

What Is Geo-Poli-Cyber™?

MLi Group created the terms Poli-Cyber™ and Geo-Poli-Cyber™ (GPC™) in 2012 and 2013 based on the philosophy that if you cannot identify and name the threat, you cannot mitigate that threat.

Geo-Poli-Cyber™ attacks are political, ideological, terrorist, extremist, ‘religious’, and/or geo-politically motivated.

More Sinister Than Financial Motivations

Geo-Poli-Cyber™ attacks are significantly different from financially motivated cyber-attacks in damage, scale, magnitude as well as in risk mitigation strategies and solutions.
