President Donald Trump met with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corp., at the White House on Friday afternoon. The meeting comes as Nvidia has faced scrutiny over its ties to Chinese artificial-intelligence startup DeepSeek, which has been making waves in the industry.
“How important is AI in the quest for Geo-Poli-Cyber Supremacy in the 21st century between America and China? Survivability News reached out to ask Khaled Fattal, MLi Group chairman. He replied:
“ Super critical – Seismically.”
Huang’s visit represents a growing trend of Big Tech executives engaging directly with the president, following last week’s inauguration events that brought together top executives from Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms. In the months leading up to his presidency, corporate leaders had also paid visits to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, making financial contributions to his inaugural fund.
Fattal later added saying:
AI, Geopolitics & Geo-Poli-Cyber warfare are on a seismic collision course impacting ‘Making America Great Again” and the quest for cyber and tech Supremacy between America and China to capture the 21st century – This represents a new ‘Unmitigated Seismic Risk’ by businesses and governments all over the world.”
As governments and business leaders and investors worldwide look ahead to the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term and his new tariffs and tax policies. But what does Trump plan to prioritize in 2025? And how can lessons be learned from his early days as president? Nvidia’s CEO said after the meeting: “We appreciated the opportunity to meet with President Trump and discuss semiconductors and AI policy. Jensen and the president discussed the importance of strengthening U.S. technology and AI leadership.”
Trump himself described the meeting positively, stating that he and Huang had a “good meeting” and that “eventually, we’re going to put tariffs on chips.” However, he did not elaborate further.
The Nvidia CEO also received praise from Trump, who called him “a great gentleman” and said he was “the biggest in the world” when it comes to chip production.
Meanwhile, Nvidia’s shares have been hit hard following the news of DeepSeek. The stock plummeted 17% on Monday before recovering somewhat, but still ended down nearly 16% for the week. The decline came as investors feared that DeepSeek’s ability to build an AI model at a lower cost could reduce demand for Nvidia’s products.
The controversy surrounding Nvidia and DeepSeek has also drawn attention from lawmakers. Republicans and Democrats have joined forces to urge the Trump administration to strengthen export controls on technology used by DeepSeek, which they claim was developed using Nvidia’s H800 chip. Reps. John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), chairs of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, issued a joint letter and statement calling for swift action to address the issue.
Nvidia has characterized DeepSeek as “an excellent AI advancement,” while Trump has described it as a “wake-up call” for U.S. industries.
